  The Project

The Minnesota Justice Research Center (MNJRC) is conducting a research study on mandatory minimum sentences in support of the Minnesota Task Force on Mandatory Minimum Sentences.

Through interviews and focus groups with folks directly and indirectly impacted, our goal is to understand the impact of these sentencing practices on individuals and communities and help shape how Minnesota approaches sentencing going forward.

What are mandatory minimums?

Mandatory minimums are laws that require a person

convicted of certain crimes to serve a set minimum amount

of time in prison, regardless of individual circumstances.
