At a time when public data is available for a wide range of topics, the public does not have access to, and therefore knows very little about, the impact of the cash bail system. This panel’s objective is to ensure that current research and data-gathering efforts are transparent and inclusive of those most impacted by Minnesota’s pretrial systems, as well as trouble the idea that our current system is effective, constitutional, or just.Â
Panelists Anna Hall (Legal Rights Center), Victoria Piehowski (MNJRC), Marci Exsted (MNJRC), Brie Petersen (MNJRC), and Adoniyah Israel (MN Freedom Fund) will reflect on how the experiences and perspectives of those who have paid bail match the experiences and perspectives of people who engage with it in professional contexts.
